Drawing to a Close

Day 6 of legislation, Day 7 of the Convention itself.

Tomorrow the Episcopal Church departs Louisville with a new Presiding Bishop-elect, a reelected President of the House of Deputies, new Vice President of the House Steve Pankey, and a slew of new legislation.

Capping off the whirlwind week was the acceptance by the House of Deputies, concurring with the House of Bishops, to accept the merger of the dioceses of Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan into a new diocese: the Diocese of the Great Lakes. As legislation resumes this afternoon for the last session of 2024, the House will vote to accept a new rejoined Diocese of Wisconsin (merging the three existing ones - Fond du Lac, Eau Claire and Milwaukee). In a time of uncertainty and transition for the Church, these are heartening measures and a Christ-filled acknowledgement that we are stronger together.

Below is a little bit of a photo dump of the week - it’s been a wonderful time and I’m ready to return to Evanston!
